We already told you about thehappybride’s snowy honeymoon in Shimla here. Last month I took a trip to Shimla. This time it was a family, or you may call it an extended family trip, Oh yeah we were like 12 people 😛 I have a big fun family! I thought I’ll give you a little insight about our hotel and snow trip to Kufri. We chose to stay at the Hotel Silverine (the trip was sponsored for all of us, so there was a budget for the hotel ) If you are on a budget and looking for a decent place to stay in you could opt for Silverline. We stayed at there Luxury rooms. Tariff and all you can check on their website. It’s almost the same. We took our own cars while travelling this time around.
Day 1. We started from Delhi in the evening and took a halt at Chandigarh.
Day 2. Had breakfast and Left for Shimla. We reached pretty late as we were a bunch of lazy slow people 😛 It was peak cold and it snowed right before we entered the city (ya we missed the snow fall 2 times in this trip, more on that later). Late evening we went to mall road and dined where my Mil n Fil had there honeymoon dinner (Alpha restaurant in the main mall road circle )! cute right! He took us to Shimla to show us around hehe.
Day 3. We were supposed to leave for Kufri (Remember how I told you were are lazy bunches) at 10 am sharp but we left at 2 p.m 😛 Playing in snow, skiing and some chilly weather was our inspiration to go there. And man it was gorgeous. We had our own cars so there was no struggle in going there. We hired a guide to go and show us around. It takes approximately 45 to 50 mins to reach Kufri from Shimla. On the way we rented some snow boots (the army types manage to look fashionable too) and met this guy who warned us not to go to the main tourist spot as it snowed heavily this morning and its highly slippery (Damn missed snowfall again!) Hence our guide took us to a adventure park where there was skiing, rappelling and river crossing miniature versions and loads and loads of snow to play with. Loud music in the middle of the snow clad mountains. What else do u need? It almost made up to the fact that we missed the snow. Oh and not to forget mentioning MAGGGII!! 😀 We came back pretty much before sunset and were extraordinarily tired. But I still wasn’t happy, I had to see the mall road in day light 🙁 We dined at combermere. You have to go there. great view and great food.
Day 4. We were supposed to start for Delhi at 12 pm sharp !! This time we were ready and I was in my mind cursing everyone for not showing me Shimla around in the bright day light huh. But one of our car broke down :P:P So 4 of us went to the Shimla church, walked around the mall road. Did random winter shopping and ate load of strawberries. And I should tell you it was really really cold these days around,it was just 10th jan.
The trip ends here 😀
A little about Hotel Silverine :
What I like :
The room service is pretty great. The rooms are well made and spacious. We stayed in the super deluxe rooms so they were big and well made. And I luckily got the best one among the one’s allotted to my family 😀
The view outside the hotel was beautiful too. And it was snowing on and of so you could see parking lots covered in snow. Just mesmerizing. There was running hot water 24*7 . Trust me in that much cold this is a luxury item!
Its not far from the mall road and has it own parking lot too.
What I din’t like :
If the guests are coming to you in January when the temperature is close to zero degress at night they would expect you to keep room heaters as a part and parcel of the room. But here you had to ask for the heaters (extra charge per night , tho not very expensive just 200 a night). But this is something you should HAVE default! The heaters pretty much made no difference so I suggest they get new one’s.
And kettles and basic tea supply in the room was missing. At-least provide kettles to warm the water up if not the milk powder and tea bags.
The parking stretch is beyond horrible. We took two innova’s and drivers. So not that our vehicles did not enter the lane but it was a scary drive. If the innova enters that lane which is a steeeeeeep slope (the extra e is for how steep it was) There is absolutely no space even for a person to walk around it. SCARY. Thank god we had drivers. I suggest park your vehicles at the high court parking and walk up to the hotel.
So this was pretty much my snow trip to Shimla. If you wanna share your experience don’t forget to write me at [email protected] or comment below.
