If getting married is considered easy, then there are some things to keep it that way, Marriage Registration. From the day you get married till eternity even though you have decided to live together, the law suggests to register your marriage
and make it legal. Not registering marriage is not a  felony/crime, but it ain’t smart either.
 
Why to register Marriages?
Marriage registration is compulsory to ensure that women are not left high and dry even if they are deserted by their husbands. The certificate means the man cannot deny being married and avoiding alimony and maintenance. Today’s world this goes either ways, to avoid a situation where either of them get into a illegal relationship and cheat one another.

How to Register a Marriage?
Marriage can be registered under Hindu Marriage act or Special Marriage act. Today’s post deals with the about Marriage Act..
Hindu Marriage Act: To register under this Act, both the partners need to be Hindu.
The Process:
Step 1 – Apply to the sub-registrar under whose jurisdiction the marriage took place or you can apply to the registrar of the place where either spouse stayed for at least six months before marriage.
Step 2 – Fill the relevant application form, sign it, and submit it, along with photocopies of the necessary documents, such as age proof and address proof.
Step 3- For proof of marriage; submit a certificate from the priest who solemnized the marriage.
Step 4 – Attach Marriage invitation or an affidavit with place and date of the marriage.
Step 5 – Both parties will need to disclose their marital status.
Step 6 – You will have to pay a small fee. 🙂

Incase of second marriage;the spouse is a divorcee or widow/widower, a copy of the divorce decree or death certificate of the previous spouse attested by a gazetted officer.
Incase if one of the above person got converted into Hinduism, they need to produce the certificate of conversion from the priest who solemnized the marriage, along with relevant documents
Once the above steps are done, the officer will verify the documents and schedule a date for registering the marriage.after which you will get the marriage certificate.
If one of the parties or incase of a non-hindu marriage, you need to register under Special Marriage Act. We will be writing about the same soon.
