During our vacation in Kerala, we had a chance to visit Kochi and we decided to spend a day there.  We have heard about the Cherai Eco-tourism and beautiful beach. We googled out a place where we can enjoy the beach and backwaters in Cherai, Cherai Beach Resort is located just in front of Cherai Beach where you can enjoy the evening sunset and sea breeze. Towards the east of Cherai Beach Resort is the beautiful backwater’s where you can witness the beautiful sunrise.

This is the apt place for nature lovers and those like to have a silent vacation away from the city with nature and you. Cherai Beach is one of the cleanest beaches in Kochi, here you can enjoy the waves and also the beautiful sunset. Hence this beach is mostly crowded even in summers.

Sunset at Cherai Beach

Our vacation to Kerala comprises of a couple of temple visits and visits to relatives place and this time too it was no different. We visited the famous Guruvayoor Sree Krishna temple in the morning and headed to Kochi. We reached Kochi and we had already done the booking in Cherai Beach Resorts. As it was 5 of us we booked a 2 bedroom villa.
Even though it was mentioned in the website that check-in is at 2 pm we inquired if we can do early check-in as we were reaching the hotel a bit early and also most hotel’s do this if the room is vacant and cleaned. But the hotel staff were cold and stubborn and were reluctant to do early check-in. After waiting for 30-45 mints, we managed to get the room at 1.30 pm. Another catch was we had hired a cab from our home town and we thought there might be a room for drivers (a common room). The resort does not have the accommodation for drivers which is provided in most of the big class resorts we have been to.
After a long wait, we checked in and the room boy guided us to our villa. As we headed to our villa we could see the beautiful backwaters beside the villas and we were thrilled to explore the whole resort.

The walking path to the villas

Since we all were tired and hungry after the long journey, we headed to the restaurant after keeping our bags in the villa. We decided to have lunch outside as none of us was in a mood to try the buffet and the resort restaurant was not serving a la carte for lunch. Luckily we found an awesome restaurant nearby which serves amazing seafood and we were happy that we tried it. We had our dinner too from the same restaurant which is just 500mts from Cherai Beach resort.( Lilliput Multi Cuisine Restaurant -highly recommended)

About the property:
Cherai Beach Resort is a very beautiful property spread in a vast area. The property consists of varieties of villas, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, health club and ayurvedic spa- massage center. For stay, you can choose among Pool villas, Doctor’s Villa, Fisherman Villas, Sunrise Villas, Garden Villas and Doctor premium villas. The villas were segregated based on their style and uniqueness. We found Fisherman villa quite unique as it was built on water with the support of bamboo stem. We planned to opt Fisherman villa but ended up choosing Doctor’s premium villa as it was more comfortable for our parents.

The Doctors Premium Villa which we choose had a small sit-out and 2 bathrooms attached bedrooms. One bedroom had a king sized bed and another one had queen sized. One bedroom had a 2-seater sofa and wardrobe while the master bedroom had TV and minibar.
I wish if there was a passage separating both the rooms. You need to pass the first room to enter the second bedroom and there is no privacy for those staying in the first bedroom. As we went with our parents and brother we did not find it difficult but we would recommend you to choose premium doctors villa only if do not have a problem with privacy.
We loved our stay at Cherai Beach Resort, even though we missed the sunrise we spent our mornings exploring the whole resort. Their spa area is a garden where you’ll find all ayurvedic medicinal plants grown.

They have a beautiful swimming pool which is clean and well maintained.

This resort is good for someone who is planning for Ayurvedic therapy or detox treatment as they do that too.

The bar, restaurant, and breakfast area is built in authentic Kerala style with loads of woodwork and traditional Kerala style ceiling.

But our breakfast was served in an air-conditioned hall(conference hall) as the open breakfast area was very hot and humid during the time of our visit and some maintenance/renovation was going on at their restaurant. The breakfast was average and there is nothing commendable about the buffet breakfast served.
After breakfast, we spent our time clicking some good pics and also watching the fishermen doing their daily routine in the backwaters.

Cherai Beach Resort is a perfect destination for a relaxed vacation. There are swings and hammocks placed where you can enjoy the nature and backwaters. The best place to visit would be from August to January or February. Cherai Beach Resort is approx 25 kilometers from Kochi Airport and the Ernakulam Railway station is 25 km far.

Overall we really liked our stay at Cherai Beach Resort and the whole property is worth a visit. The only thing we missed here was hospitality and warmth from the staff. They greeted and welcomed us coldly and that was repeated every time even during our check-out.
