250Kms out of Bangalore close to Kerala border lies a beautiful town with the smell of freshly roasted coffee, the city which gave us the breed of Racers and celebrities like Jagat Najnjappa, Nikhil Chinnappa and more. This place is called Coorg with beautiful scenery, waterfall and places spread around. Madikeri, Virajpet, Kushal Nagar are just some of the places here. We have written about Coorg in one of our previous post (Read here: Coorg: The Scotland of India). This time we thought about sharing our views about one of the Homestay in Coorg, infact the one place we stayed. Notting Hill homestay, a beautiful house near Raja’s Seat with a breathtaking view of foggy Madikeri, the feel of home away from home.

We drove down from Kannur (North kerala) to Coorg which is a 3-4hour drive through the winding western ghat roads with beautiful scenery. We had seen this property online and called the owner (Netra) to enquire about it, she insisted that we should see the pics before booking this place and she emailed us the pictures, one look and we were impressed.
Booking was pretty easy, we transferred half of the total cost for the stay and we got a confirmation email from the owner. The day we were heading for Coorg, we called the owner & she gave us the contact person’s name & told us to call incase of any doubts

We reached Madikeri Raja’s seat and called Nitin, Netra’s brother who is our contact person. He took us to Notting Hill and it was more beautiful than we saw in pictures. A beautiful house with a view of madikeri and the mountains near by.

The house have a beautiful corridor, 3 bed-rooms out of which 2 bed rooms have attached bathroom, a drawing room, dining room with a 6 seater dining table, a passage with a cot and a kitchen.

We loved spending our late evenings  in the cozy drawing room area which is nicely furnished. There is a rack of books for the book worms and also some indoor games.

There is also a small lawn and seating arrangements if you want to enjoy the beautiful weather outside.

The care taker Siva will be available any time at your service. Once we reached, Nithin told us to choose any two rooms since they don’t have any bookings for the 3rd room on that date. Effectively the house became ours for 2 days. We had requested for the local Coorg food and so Netra’s mother cooked dinner for us. First day we had some yummy Pork and chicken while second day we had some Mutton and Fish fry along with other Coorgi items.

This property is 10mnts from Madikeri town  so travelling is not a problem. Infact if you want a vehicle, Nithin will arrange it too. They had told us to inform them incase if we want any help in sight seeing or commute. During our stay ( September) the cost for one room was 3000 INR per day and this was a steal deal. Breakfast was complementary, they do not provide lunch as mostly guest would be out for site seeing during day time. Dinner costed us 350\300 INR per head ( depends on your choice of food) while tea\coffee and snacks were complimentary. Snacks include pakaoda’s and coffee, the awesome Coorg coffee. It’s a pet friendly place, there are no restriction on the use of alcohol too. There is enough space for parking if you are bringing your own vehicle.

If a honeymoon couple is booking this plot you may lack privacy if there is a larger group staying there. This place is just perfect for a group of 6 or more where you can book all the 3 rooms or those who don’t have issue with privacy. All the other rooms except bedroom is common. We were lucky that the 3rd room was vacant during our stay 😀 Other than this Notting hill is the perfect home stay in every aspect.

Main attractions like Abbey falls are at 30mnt distance. Kushal Nagar, Dubbare Elephant camp etc are also at 30mnts – 40mnts distance. Madikeri town is at walk able distance and hence shopping is easy (still better to take car).

Yay! We can fly :D
